Why the Tyger - William Blake?
I know William Blake wrote the Tyger wanting an animal from the other end of the spectrum from a lamb which he wrote for his Songs of Innocence. The Tiger was a good choice, for it is fierce not gentle, quickly angered, ferocious...but I started thinking...why the Tiger? What makes the tiger stand out compared to all other fierce and horrible animals in the world that he could have used? The Lion is much more ferocious imo, though I'm glad it wasn't used because I consider them quite noble. But why the insanely fast cheetah, or jaguar or leopard? Why the Tiger? Why even a feline? Think about a poem about a gorrila, a crocodile, a snake even a ferocious bear. I would wonder much more about "who created them" than I would a Tiger. Although fearful, it at least has some sort of beauty to it.
